On Thursday, September 22, 2016, a joint meeting between the Society of American Foresters and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association – Southern Chapter will focus on two key forest health issues – annosum root rot and oak wilt. Morning presentations will cover the new oak harvesting guidelines and seek input for the upcoming review of the annosum root rot guidelines. In the afternoon, meeting participants will visit a state timber sale in Waushara County and evaluate how the oak wilt guidelines apply to it. The gathering will start at the Wild Rose Fishery Habitat Management Station (N6154 State Why 22, Wild Rose, WI 54984) at 9 a.m. (registration at 8:30 a.m.) and conclude at 4 p.m. Participants will be able to earn continuing education credits: 7 SFI credits ($35 charge), 5.5 SAF credits (category 1) or 5.5 DNR cooperating forester credits. RSVP to Anthony Rynish (RynishForestry@gmail.com or 920-595-0546) if you plan to attend to ensure an accurate count for lunch. Lunch will be sponsored by Expera Specialty Solutions and Mauck Insurance is sponsoring the morning donuts and coffee.
