By Randy Cooper, Southeast Chapter Chair –
The Southeast Chapter met in Madison on April 17, 2015 for lunch at the Great Dane and then toured the USDA Forest Products Lab. Two projects we saw were an all-wood tornado shelter constructed with standard 2×4 lumber after testing with a debris cannon to simulate flying debris, and a method for making recyclable movie sets. The 2016 National SAF Convention will likely include a tour of the Forest Products Lab. Our next stop was Olbrich Botanical Gardens, a Madison City Park, with 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and an indoor, tropical conservatory. Thanks to Jeff Kante for making the tour arrangements, and the members who attended.
