As you reflect on the past year, please consider nominating yourself or a colleague for recognition of good work. The Wisconsin Society of American Foresters is seeking nominations for the following awards, submitted to Awards Committee Chair, Christel Kern (christel.c.kern@usda.gov).
John Macon Award:
A WI SAF member whose career has been so outstanding that he/she deserves recognition from his/her peers for outstanding service. Nominations can come from former chapter officers or groups of at least 3 members. Evaluation of nominees will be based on leadership in volunteer work supporting WI-SAF, promotion of forestry, and evidence of outstanding efforts over a sustained period. Nominations should include a nomination letter and a detailed description including education, experience, and evidence of complying with the spirit of the award (not to exceed 3 pages). Nominations due by no later than February 28, 2023.
Michael W. King Memorial Field Forester of the Year Award:
A WI SAF member who has practiced field forestry for at least 15 years, the majority of which must be in applied field forestry. The nominee should be committed to the application of forestry on the ground using sound scientific methods and adaptive management strategies. Nominations should include a nomination letter and a description of how the candidate satisfies: Practicing forestry for at least 15 years; Spending a major portion of their career in field application of forestry; Being locally or regionally recognized by peers for excellence in field application of forestry; Understanding of forest and science, along with adaptive management process, to achieve landowner objectives and ensure forest sustainability; Describing the intensity of management which may range from very intensive applications to more extensive management regimes. Nominations due by no later than February 28, 2023.
